I developed a real interest in web design and development in my first year at college (2014/15). Before this I had only ever created basic DreamWeaver websites at school, which I enjoyed, but not to the same extent.
When I learnt how to make websites fully at college with the use of HTML and CSS, I thoroughly enjoyed it and have taken great pride in my work.
I now have experience of HTML5, CSS3, PHP, MySQL, JavaScript and Bootstrap.
As part of my role as an ICT Technician for Ark, I worked with a MAT (Multi Academy Trust). The MAT wanted an intranet system so the schools within their collective could communicate more effectively. Knowing I had a keen interest in web, I was approached to create the system, and did exactly that. I worked with multiple staff members to design and develop a custom system to meet their unique needs. By creating a website from scratch, I was able to create exactly what they wanted, rather than using a WYSIWYG system that could only offer some of the functionality they required. The website was internally hosted, however I rebuilt it in SharePoint Online for ease of handover when I left Ark.
I am a keen bell ringer for Spalding St Mary and St Nicolas Church. I have been ringing for over 9 years now. The Lincoln Diocesan Guild of Church Bell Ringers has a website and each branch of the guild has it's own part of the website. The Elloe Deaneries Branch page was quite dated, so myself and a friend offered to update it. We visited all the churches in the branch to take new photos of all the churches and then created the website. We wanted it to be modern, but simple and clean as it would be accessed by people of all ages and technical abilities. We have had a lot of praise for the website so far.
While I was completing the final year of my degree, my university created a Computing Competition where students were asked to rebuild the university's website. Myself and a fellow student did this together and won the competition. We thought the university's current website was good, but there was too much text. So we tried to make our version more user friendly.
One of the units on the final year of my degree was "E-Commerce Systems". For this unit I was required to create an online shop. The website did not have to function as a shop, however it had to be designed well in order to entice people to use the site. I achieved a first for this particular unit. It involves a basket system linked to a database that would store what users want to buy.
